OUR MISSION
The mission of Friends of Carondelet Park is to ensure the parks stability as an icon for surrounding neighborhoods and to accelerate improvements that provide a wholesome environment where visitors will enjoy recreational activities and be inspired by the historical legacy and unique natural habitat of one of St. Louis’ oldest and most beautiful parks.
HISTORY
In March 2001, a small group of parents and neighbors were concerned about the playground located in Carondelet Park. After working with a local alderman and Commissioner of Park, plans for a new playground were underway. The neighbors organized a playground committee that worked alongside the Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry to shape final plans for the playgound. The new playground opened in November 2001.
What simply began as a playground committee grew into the Friends of Carondelet Park (FoCP).

PARK HISTORY
Carondelet Park, established in 1875, is one of the oldest parks in St. Louis and has long been a vital part of the Carondelet neighborhood's identity. Spanning over 180 acres, it was designed as a public green space to provide a natural escape for residents of the rapidly growing St. Louis area. The park’s layout reflects the picturesque park style popular in the late 19th century, with rolling hills, winding pathways, and two scenic lakes. Early on, Carondelet Park became a beloved destination for families, offering areas for picnicking, fishing, and quiet relaxation.
Over the years, the park has evolved to meet the needs of the community, adding amenities like playgrounds, athletic fields, and a newer mountain bike trail while preserving its historic character. Carondelet Park has hosted countless local events, celebrations, and traditions, serving as a cultural and recreational hub. Today, the park remains a testament to St. Louis’ commitment to preserving green spaces, blending historical charm with modern features that make it a gathering place for all ages.
